SERDANG, December 13 - The challenge of improving academic writing skills among postgraduate students has inspired the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2), in collaboration with King Abdulaziz University, to organize a seminar on using artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool to enhance academic writing. The event was also supported by the International Centre (iPUTRA), UPM.
The webinar, titled "Empower Academics to Enhance Research and Writing with AI," was conducted by Dr. Imtiaz Ali from King Abdulaziz University. Dr. Ali, a lecturer and esteemed journal editor for Results in Engineering and Environment, Development, and Sustainability, provided valuable insights into the potential of AI in streamlining key stages of the research and writing process. These included idea generation, literature review, improving clarity, and enriching the overall quality of writing. He emphasized that while AI is a powerful tool to foster creativity and critical thinking, it is not a substitute for human ingenuity and effort.
The session was interactive and well-received, with participants actively engaging in a lively Q&A session facilitated by Dr. Mohd Hafizuddin, a research officer at ION2. The attendees expressed their gratitude for the practical tips and actionable advice shared by Dr. Ali. The two-hour webinar, offered free of charge, attracted 140 participants from both local and international institutions. To further assist attendees, Dr. Ali generously shared his contact information for follow-up inquiries.
Encouraged by the positive feedback, ION2 plans to host similar programs in the future to support students and researchers in enhancing their research and writing capabilities. The webinar underscored the growing importance of AI in academia and its transformative potential to revolutionize research methodologies and scholarly communication. By leveraging AI, researchers can significantly boost their productivity, enhance the quality of their work, and maintain a competitive edge in the ever-evolving academic landscape.
