Serdang, 15 August 2024 – The Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2) in collaboration with Putra Science Park (PSP), UPM, successfully held an Intellectual Property Clinic 2024. The activity held at ION2 aimed to pique the interest of ION2 staffs and students to increase their knowledge and skills in protecting intellectual property (IP) rights.

The two-hour programme was attended by participants from various backgrounds, including academics, research officers, science officers and postgraduate students. In addition, postdoctoral researchers also participated in the clinic. The participants had the opportunity to interact directly with experts from the Promotion and Management of Intellectual Property Division led by the Deputy Director, Ts. Dr. Saiful Hasley Ramli.

During the interactive session, participants learned how to register their UP using the UPMIP system. The material presented covered various types of IP such as patents, trademarks, industrial designs, and copyrights. Additionally, participants gained an understanding of the importance of protecting IP to maintain the competitiveness of innovations and support the commercialization of research outcomes.

"This Intellectual Property Clinic is part of PSP's commitment to supporting the development of innovation at UPM," said Ts. Dr. Saiful Hasley Ramli. "By providing practical guidance, we hope more researchers will realise the importance of protecting IP and be able to make optimal use of it."

PSP hopes that such activities can continue to be held regularly to reach more members of the UPM community. This approach aims to raise awareness of the importance of IP and foster the creation of more competitive innovations at both national and international levels.
