SERDANG, 1 July – The Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), underwent the 2026 Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Inspection conducted by the UPM Occupational Safety and Health Management Office as part of its continuous commitment to strengthening workplace safety culture and ensuring compliance with established safety standards.

The programme commenced with a welcoming address by the Chairman of the ION2 OSH Committee, Associate Professor Dr. Mas Jaffri Masaruddin, who emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a safe and healthy working environment, particularly within research laboratories.

This was followed by a briefing delivered by ChM. Dr. Khairul Basyar, representing the UPM Occupational Safety and Health Management Office, who outlined the objectives of the inspection, its scope, and the key compliance areas to be assessed throughout the evaluation process.

The inspection covered various aspects of workplace and laboratory safety, including the working environment, laboratory facilities, chemical management, safety documentation, emergency equipment, and compliance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The exercise aimed to identify opportunities for continuous improvement to ensure that all workspaces maintain the highest standards of safety and operational readiness.

The inspection reflects the ongoing commitment of ION2, in particular, and UPM, as a whole, to fostering a safe, healthy, and conducive environment for research and daily operations. Such initiatives are expected to enhance safety awareness among staff while supporting research excellence through a sustainable culture of occupational safety and health.
