SERDANG, 20 April 2026 — A two-day FESEM & EDX Workshop was successfully organised by ION2, Universiti Putra Malaysia at ION2, Universiti Putra Malaysia from 16 to 17 April 2026.

The programme was held in collaboration with Carl Zeiss Sdn. Bhd. and aimed to provide participants with exposure to FESEM and EDX techniques through a combination of talks and practical sessions. The workshop also served as a platform to introduce a new facility at ION2, namely the FESEM-EDX system, Sigma 360 model.

The workshop featured presentations on FESEM by Dr. Ronn Goei and on EDX by Leong Mun Kit from Oxford Instruments. The sessions covered basic principles, applications, and current practices in the use of the instruments.

In addition to the talks, participants took part in guided laboratory tours and live demonstrations of FESEM-EDX equipment, including an introduction to the capabilities of the newly installed Sigma 360 system. Group sessions were also conducted to introduce basic procedures in sample preparation and instrument handling.

The workshop received participation from various institutions, including Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Universiti Malaya, UCSI University, Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI), Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Universiti Kuala Lumpur, Sunway University, National Metrology Institute of Malaysia (NMIM), and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

The organisers expressed their appreciation to all speakers, collaborators, and participants for their support and involvement in the programme.
