SERDANG, 27 November – The Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), hosted the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) Signing Ceremony with the Mahmood and Ragayah Foundation (M&R Foundation). Founded by Dato’ Dr. Mahmood Merican Osman Merican and Datin Ragayah Mohamed Eusoff, the Foundation has pledged its support for ION2’s research initiatives through a significant endowment contribution.

The ceremony was officiated by UPM’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof. Dr. Ismi Arif Ismail, who emphasized that the endowment would pave the way for stronger collaborations, enhance UPM’s commitment to producing impactful research, and foster knowledgeable and skilled graduates.

The MoA was signed by Prof. Dr. Ismi Arif Ismail and Dato’ Dr. Mahmood Merican Osman Merican, Founder of the M&R Foundation. The event was witnessed by ION2 Director Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Suraya Abdul Rashid and M&R Foundation Co-founder Datin Ragayah Mohamed Eusoff.

The agreement reflects the enduring dedication of Dato’ Dr. Mahmood and Datin Ragayah to advancing research and technological innovation, particularly in sustainable agricultural technology and food security. Their prior endowments to Universiti Malaya and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) have also significantly supported research in medicine and healthcare.

The event also included the inauguration of the Mega Putra Seminar Room by Dato’ Dr. Mahmood Merican. Distinguished guests later gathered at the ION2 foyer to participate in the Silver Jubilee Celebration, which featured the launch of the ION2 Time capsule and a commemorative photo session at a dedicated photo booth.

With the success of this milestone event, ION2 aims to further solidify its standing as a premier research institution, driving technological advancements and societal well-being, in alignment with UPM’s vision of becoming a world-class research university.
