SABAH, July, 2022 - Assoc. Prof Dr. Che Azurahanim Che Abdullah, Head of Nanomaterials Synthesis and Characterisation Laboratory, won three medals at the Cocoa Invention, Innovation & Exhibition (CIEE 2022), which was held from 21 to 24 July 2022 at the Cocoa Biotechnology Research Center, Telipok Sabah.
Her collaborative project with Emmellie Laura Albert, a PhD student, won Gold medal for a project titled "Biogenic Synthesis and Characterization of Reduced Graphene Oxide Utilizing Cocoa Waste."
Her student, Puteri Hazeera, won the Silver medal for her project, "Green Synthesis of Gold Nanoparticles from Cocoa Waste for Potential Colorimetric Based Pesticide Identification". Ashreen Norman's project, "Cocoa Shells as Precursors for Luminescent Nanoparticles in Smart Packaging for Food," won Bronze.
Her participation in this exhibition is not solely for the purpose of competing, but also to seek opportunities to collaborate with the agency involved on future projects.
"Furthermore, I would like to expose my students to new experiences through this type of participation.
This not only boosts their confidence but also allows them to think critically when answering questions from the jury ", Dr. Che Azurahanim added.
