SERDANG, 13 December 2021 – Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2) received a visit from seven (7) panels from several local universities led by Prof. Dr. Fahrul Zaman Huyop for the site visit HICoE.

ION2 previously known as the Institute of Advanced Technology (ITMA), passed the minimum score for the next evaluation stage set by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) for the application of the Higher Education Center of Excellence (HICoE).

The opening meeting for the site evaluation was held at 9.30 am, which was also attended by YBhg. Prof. Dr. Nazamid Saari, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation); YBhg. Prof. Dr. Mohd Adzir Mahdi, Director, Research Management Center, UPM; ION2 management members; Panels and Secretariat MOHE.

“I would like to congratulate ION2 for passing the minimum score for the next evaluation stage, which is a site visit. Indirectly, I see ION2 as one of the research institutes that has successfully placed itself in a more advanced position. I hope this evaluation will be a pillar of strength and ready to face any challenges in order to become more competitive and excellent in the future”, said the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) during his welcome speech during the Opening Meeting.

During the evaluation, the panels also were invited to visit ION2 laboratories and high technology equipment, including the latest XRD equipment. The findings from the site visit assessment had been presented during the Closing Meeting by the Head of Panel, Prof. Dr. Fahrul Zaman Huyop (UTM). ION2 hopes to be accredited as a Higher Education Center of Excellence (HICoE), following the positive comments from the panels.

Thank you to the ION2 staff for their hard work preparing documents for this site assessment. It is hoped that ION2 will be granted as a Higher Education Center of Excellence (HICoE).
