SERDANG, 29^th January - The Functional Nanotechnology Devices Laboratory (FNDL) successfully organized the first International Guest Lecture Series of 2024. The lecture, titled ‘Bottom-up III-V Micro-Ring Laser Cavities: Exploring a New Horizon for Integrated Photonics,’ was delivered by Dr. Wei Wen Wong, a post-doctoral researcher from the Australian National University (ANU), Australia.

Dr. Wei Wen Wong’s presentation primarily focused on the fabrication techniques, key characteristics, and diverse applications of III-V micro-ring laser cavities. His talk provided valuable insights into how these advanced photonic devices can be utilized in integrated photonics, emphasizing their potential to revolutionize various technological fields.

Dr. Wong completed his undergraduate degree in Electronics Engineering with a major in Nanotechnology at Multimedia University (MMU), Malaysia, in 2016. He then worked as a product engineer specializing in failure analysis at Cypress Semiconductor Corporation in Penang, Malaysia, for two years. In 2018, he pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Engineering Physics/Applied Physics at the Australian National University (ANU), Australia, and graduated in 2022. Following his Ph.D., Dr. Wong worked as a part-time tutor and research officer before his appointment as a post-doctoral researcher at ANU in February 2023, where he continues to contribute to cutting-edge research.

The lecture was attended by 20 participants, including ION2 staff, students, and lecturers from the Faculty of Engineering. The event provided an excellent opportunity for attendees to engage with pioneering research in photonics and gain a deeper understanding of the latest advancements in the field.
