SERDANG, 24^th January - ION2 received a visit from students and teachers from Sek Men Keb Puchong Utama (1). The delegations were led by Puan Nurma Abu Hassan Basheri, two teachers, and a representative from Persatuan Ibu, Bapa dan Guru (PIBG).

The visitors were welcomed by Puan Juraina Md. Yusof as the emcee, followed by a welcoming speech by Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Suraya Abdul Rashid, Deputy Director of ION2. She gave an introduction to ION2’s background and organizational structures. In addition, Prof. Suraya also delivers an insight on nanoscale materials in terms of their characteristics, morphology, and field of applications so that the visitors can apprehend the knowledge while visiting the research sites.

The next item on the agenda was a speech on green sustainability, explaining the importance of maintaining and restoring the environment for everyone’s benefit. The speech was delivered by Dr. Umer Rashid, Research Fellow at ION2.

The visitors were grouped into 4 teams and led to visit ION2’s laboratories, such as the Nanomaterials Synthesis and Characterization Laboratory (NSCL), the Nanomaterials Processing and Technology Laboratory (NPTL), and the Functional Nanotechnology Devices Laboratory (FNDL).

They also visited high-tech facilities to analyze nanomaterials, such as Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Raman Spectroscopy, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and several other pieces of equipment.

Students showed huge interest in research that involved the process, analysis, and application of nanomaterials in ION2. Ion2 hopes that this visit could heighten students’  interest in the science, technology, and mathematics (STEM) field in their journey to have more quality human capital.
