UPM-Kyutech Collaborative Workshop on Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) Fabrication

SERDANG, 18 November– The two-week collaborative workshop on Dye-sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) fabrication, jointly organized by the Functional Nanotechnology Devices Laboratory (FNDL) at ION2 UPM and Kyushu Institute of Technology (KYUTECH), Japan, concluded on November 17, 2023. This workshop aimed to foster collaboration in renewable energy and provide hands-on experience in solar cell technology for students.

Eight students from KYUTECH, Japan, actively participated in various modules designed to impart practical knowledge in DSSC fabrication. These modules covered comprehensive aspects of DSSC fabrication, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience.

The workshop spanned introductory sessions, safety discussions, and hands-on modules, delving into titanium dioxide (TiO2) paste synthesis, electrode coating, and dye preparation. The latter part focused on the N719 dye solution, concluding with student presentations showcasing their DSSC fabrication skills.

Professor Ts. Dr. Suhaidi Shafie, leading the workshop, expressed optimism about the impact of collaborative mobility programs. “These initiatives create valuable opportunities for students and educators to delve into new realms of knowledge. We anticipate that the skills acquired in this workshop will significantly contribute to advancing renewable energy technologies", he said.

Participation certificates were awarded to all students and instructors, recognizing their commitment and the successful conclusion of the workshop. Such collaborative endeavors not only enhance students' educational journeys but also broaden the knowledge landscape for both UPM and KYUTECH.

The program concluded with an excursion, enabling participants to explore UPM's surroundings and foster cultural exchange. The success of this collaborative workshop emphasizes the importance of international partnerships in advancing research and education for the betterment of future generations and the global community.
