SERDANG, October 2023 – ION2 received a benchmarking visit from a delegation representing the Center for NDT Testing and Consulting (CENDTec), Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), under the leadership of Ir Dr. Eliza M. Yusup. The purpose of the visit was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the establishment and intricacies of mass calibration laboratory operations.

The visit commenced with a briefing provided by Pn. Sarinawani Abdul Ghani, the Quality Manager at ION2. During this enlightening session, the delegation was introduced to the ION2 ISO/IEC 17025 system and shared the fascinating history of ION2's laboratory. The lab's journey from its inception to its current status as an accredited facility was an inspiring narrative of dedication, continuous improvement, and a commitment to excellence.

Furthermore, Pn. Sarinawani highlighted the system's critical role in ensuring the quality and competence of the laboratory's services. She elaborated on the rigorous standards, procedures, and documentation required to meet the stringent requirements of the MS ISO/IEC 17025 system. It provided the UTHM delegation with valuable insights into the long-term commitment required to establish and maintain the accreditation laboratory.

Subsequently, the delegation had the privilege of visiting the Mass Metrology Laboratory at ION2. This experience allowed them to witness the laboratory's operations up close, including the calibration of mass standards and the dedication of the laboratory's expert staff.

The benchmarking visit to ION2 has left an indelible impression on the members of the UTHM delegation. It has not only broadened their knowledge but has also ignited a strong aspiration within UTHM to establish its own state-of-the-art calibration laboratory. The wealth of wisdom, best practices, industry standards, and insights into the 17025 system shared during this visit are anticipated to provide a robust foundation for UTHM's forthcoming endeavors in developing an accredited laboratory.
