SERDANG, February - Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2) organised its Staff Assembly and New Year Address 2026 on 11 February 2026 (Wednesday) at the ION2 Seminar Hall.

The event, which commenced at 9.30 a.m., brought together the management team and all staff members of the institute. This annual programme aims to strengthen organisational cohesion, communicate the institute’s strategic direction, and outline key priorities and focus areas for 2026 in line with the university’s aspirations and evolving higher education landscape.

The assembly also marked the first official address delivered by the Director of ION2, Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Suhaidi Shafie, who assumed office on 1 February 2026. In his address, he emphasised the importance of fostering a strong culture of teamwork, enhancing research and innovation excellence, and strengthening institutional governance to ensure the institute remains competitive at both national and international levels.

He also highlighted the need to intensify interdisciplinary research collaborations, increase high-impact publications, and expand strategic partnerships with industry and global research institutions. Such efforts, he noted, are crucial in positioning ION2 as a leading centre of excellence in nanosains and nanotechnology.

He further called upon all ION2 staff to continue demonstrating high commitment, professionalism, integrity, and a collaborative spirit in carrying out their respective roles and responsibilities.

The event is expected to enhance internal coordination, strengthen synergy across units, and support the institute’s continuous efforts to advance research excellence and service performance throughout 2026.
