ION2 UPM Strengthens International Collaboration Through UPM-CU Lecture Series

SERDANG, August 2026 – The Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), in collaboration with the Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University (CU), Thailand, successfully organized the UPM-CU Lecture Series 1/2026 online via Google Meet on 21 August 2026.

The first lecture series of 2026 featured the topic “Recent Advancements in Algal Biotechnology: Carbon Capture, Storage, & Utilization” and attracted 46 participants from Malaysia and abroad. Participants comprised students, researchers and industry representatives from diverse academic and professional backgrounds.

The lecture was delivered by invited speaker Assistant Professor Dr. Pichaya In-Na from the Department of Chemical Technology, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University. The session was moderated by Ts. Dr. Mohd Hafizuddin Ab Ghani, a researcher from ION2, UPM.

The lecture aimed to provide participants with insights into recent developments in algal biotechnology, particularly in carbon capture, storage and utilization. The knowledge-sharing session also supported the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 13: Climate Action.

The session highlighted the potential of microalgae as a green biotechnology approach to addressing climate change and global warming, while providing opportunities for knowledge exchange and exploration of emerging research areas.

The joint organization of the lecture series also served as a platform to strengthen strategic ties and international academic collaboration between UPM and Chulalongkorn University. Continued initiatives of this nature are expected to encourage the exchange of ideas, expand academic networks and create opportunities for high-impact collaborative research in the future.
