Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

The proceeding of iSAMN is published by the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Universiti Putra Malaysia. The following statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of authors, reviewers, editors, and the Editor-in-Chief. All parties involved in the publication process are expected to adhere to the highest standards of ethical conduct.

Complaints and appeals must be submitted in writing to the Editor-in-Chief via email.

ETHICAL PUBLICATION GUIDELINES

Reporting Standards
Authors must report research findings accurately, avoiding fabrication, falsification, or data manipulation. Research methods must be described clearly to allow reproducibility and verification by others.

Conflicts of Interest
Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could influence the research outcomes. All sources of funding must be acknowledged in the manuscript.

Plagiarism
Manuscripts must be original. Any use of others’ work must be properly cited. Plagiarism, including self-plagiarism and uncredited paraphrasing, will result in rejection or retraction. The Editorial Board may use plagiarism detection software to evaluate submissions.

Multiple or Redundant Publications
Submitting the same work to multiple journals is unethical. Authors should not publish redundant articles describing essentially the same findings without proper justification and citation.

Authorship and Acknowledgements
Only individuals who have made significant contributions should be listed as authors. Others who contributed to specific aspects of the work should be acknowledged. The corresponding author must ensure that all co-authors approve the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission.

1. Code of Ethics for Authors

  • Authors remain fully responsible for the integrity, originality, and accuracy of all submitted content.
  • Authors must ensure that all submitted work has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
  • Reuse of previously published work must be properly cited and justified. Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously is strictly prohibited.
  • Submission to another publication is only permitted after formal withdrawal or rejection by iSAMN.
  • Authors must report any significant errors or inaccuracies discovered after publication to the Editor-in-Chief for appropriate correction or retraction.
  • All listed authors must have made a substantial contribution to the research and be willing to take public responsibility for its content.

Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies
  • Authors may use generative AI tools only for language editing and improving clarity of the manuscript.
  • These tools must not be used for generating scientific content, performing data analysis, or drawing research conclusions.
  • The use of generative AI must be clearly disclosed in the manuscript, preferably in the Acknowledgements or a dedicated disclosure section.
  • Failure to properly disclose the use of AI tools or reliance on them for generating core content may be considered a breach of publication ethics and may lead to manuscript rejection or retraction.

2. Code of Ethics for Reviewers

  • Reviewers must declare any conflicts of interest before accepting an invitation to review.
  • Reviewers may decline to review if they lack the required expertise or have any personal, financial, or professional conflict.
  • Reviews should be conducted objectively and professionally, with constructive and evidence-based feedback.
  • Reviewers must report any suspected ethical misconduct (e.g., plagiarism or data fabrication) to the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Reviewers are responsible for evaluating the originality of submissions and must treat all manuscripts as confidential documents.
  • Content from submissions must not be shared or used for personal advantage.
  • Reviewers must adhere to the agreed-upon review deadlines. Requests for extensions are at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief.

3. Duties of Editors and the Editorial Board

  • Editors are responsible for managing a fair, timely, and rigorous peer-review process.
  • Editors must assign reviewers with relevant expertise and manage conflicts of interest during the editorial process.
  • All reviews should be assessed for quality. In rare cases, reviews may be edited to remove identifying or inappropriate remarks.
  • Editorial decisions should be based solely on the manuscript’s scientific merit, originality, clarity, and relevance to the scope of the proceedings.
Editors may discuss with other editors or reviewers in making decisions.
  • Editors must protect the confidentiality of all manuscript-related information.
  • Editors and board members must declare any conflicts of interest and withdraw from the review or decision-making process when necessary.
  • The Editorial Board is expected to promote the journal, uphold its standards, and act as ambassadors within the academic community.

4. Duties of the Editor-in-Chief

  • Ensure an impartial and transparent peer-review and publication process.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and editorial communications.
  • Make the final decision on the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts based on peer reviews and editorial policies.
  • Provide clear guidelines to authors, reviewers, and editors.
  • Work collaboratively with authors, reviewers, and the editorial team to enhance the visibility, reputation, and integrity of the proceedings.
  • Uphold ethical standards and ensure adherence to best publication practices.

5. Declaration

By submitting a manuscript to iSAMN, authors confirm that:

  • The work is original and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • All authors have reviewed and approved the submission.
  • All ethical guidelines outlined here have been followed.
  • If accepted, the work will not be published elsewhere in the same form without permission from the copyright holder.
