SERDANG, 23 January – The Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2) held a heartfelt Appreciation and Farewell Ceremony on 23 January 2026 to honour the service and dedication of its Director, Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Suraya Abdul Rashid, and Executive Officer, Puan Siti Nur Lidiya Sharudin. The ceremony, held at the ION2 Seminar Hall, brought together staff and members of the ION2 community in a warm, respectful and collegial atmosphere.

Prof. Dr. Suraya has served ION2 since 2015, beginning as Head of the Nano Materials Processing and Technology Laboratory (NPTL), before her appointment as Deputy Director in 2022 and Director in 2024. Throughout her leadership, ION2 experienced significant progress in governance, research development, postgraduate programmes and industry collaboration. She will conclude her service on 31 January 2026 to undertake a three-year secondment with Qarbotech Sdn. Bhd., where she will focus on the commercialisation of research outputs in support of strengthening Universiti Putra Malaysia’s international standing.

The ceremony also paid tribute to Puan Siti Nur Lidiya Sharudin, who joined ION2 in 2022 and contributed significantly to the management of research and postgraduate affairs. She will be pursuing a new career opportunity in Cyberjaya.

The occasion stood as a sincere expression of gratitude, marking a meaningful farewell and celebrating the lasting contributions of both individuals to the growth and excellence of ION2.
