A visit to ION2 by Egypt Delegation

SERDANG, November 15 - The Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2) received a visit from the Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology Department, Advanced Materials Division, Central Metallurgical Research and Development Institute (CMRDI), Egypt. The delegates were Dr. Soliman E. Elhout and Dr. Aliaa M. S. Saleem.

The visiting session began with a brief explanation of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology profile by the Head of the Functional Nanotechnology Devices Laboratory (FNDL), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jaafar Abdullah at the ION2 Meeting Room.

Afterwards, Dr. Soliman E. Elhout, a CMRDI representative, briefly introduced CMRDI. Then, Dr. Aliaa M. S. Saleem presented the ongoing research at CMRDI. Apart of the research projects carried out are as follows:

1)Preparation of Advanced Nanomaterials: Simple, Versatile and Cheap Approach
A. Preparation Techniques: Top Down and Bottom Up
B. Preparation of ZnO Nanowires/Nanorods
C. Preparation of Carbon-based Nanomaterials
D. Nanoporous Silicon: Synthesis and Applications
E. Preparation Techniques of Porous Silicon
F. Electronic Applications
G. Biomedical Applications
H. Electrochemical Preparation of Porous Silicon

2)Electrochemical Deposition of Magnetic Nanomaterials into Nanostructured Porous Silicon for Data
Storage Applications
• Effect of Deposition Time on the Magnetic Properties
• Application: Fabrication of Efficient Hybrid Nanostructured Photovoltaic Device
• Metal Assisted Wet Chemical Etching of Silicon

The delegation then visited the FNDL and NSCL laboratories to see the ongoing and commercialised research as well as the scientific equipment available at ION2. The explanation session in the laboratory was conducted by Dr. Intan Helina Hasan and Dr Ismayadi Ismail. Dr Ismayadi introduced Vertical Chemical Vapor Deposition (VCVD) and the Vector Network Analyzer (VNA).

At the end of the visit, CMRDI and ION2 hope that the collaboration between the two institutes can be carried out in the future, especially in sensor technology.
