SERDANG, October 22 – The Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, UPM, through the NanoDidik 2024 program, empowered teachers from Petaling Perdana, Kuala Selangor, and Hulu Langat districts with the latest knowledge and skills in nanoscience and nanotechnology. This two-day program, organized by the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2) in collaboration with the National Nanotechnology Centre (NNC) under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), provided an inspiring hands-on learning experience designed for classroom application.
Participants engaged in practical activities, such as building a wireless circuit—an innovation by ION2 researchers—and observed live demonstrations of state-of-the-art equipment. “We gained a fresh perspective on science, especially through the wireless circuit activity. It’s an experience we’ll take back to share with our students,” said Puan Maznah Mohamed, a chemistry teacher from SMK Sri Indah. Puan Ong Wei Chen from SMK Cheras Jaya, attending the program for the second time, added, “We truly enjoyed the lab experience and working with high-tech equipment not available in schools.”

The program, officiated by Acting Director of NNC, Ts. Mohd Helme Mohd Helan, emphasized the importance of empowering teachers with scientific knowledge that keeps pace with current technological advances. ION2 Director Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Suraya Abdul Rashid and representatives from the Selangor State Education Department were also present to show support.
Despite attendance challenges posed by this year’s exam schedule, organizers aim to broaden the program’s reach, particularly among chemistry teachers. NanoDidik continues to be a key platform for strengthening science education in this era of advanced technology, enabling teachers to educate the next generation more effectively.
