Functional Devices Laboratory (FDL), Institute of Advanced Technology (ITMA) has organized a series of online seminars from 8 until 14 May 2020. The seminar series were a part of ITMA activities during Movement Control Order (MCO). More than 40 participants have registered and joined the online seminar from inside and outside of Malaysia.

The first talk was delivered by Head of FDL, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suhaidi Shafie, entitled “Efficiency enhancement in dye sensitized solar cell”. The first session of the talk was held on 8^th May 2020 at 10.00 a.m., while the second part of the talk was continued on 13^th May 2020 at 11.00 a.m. The talk covered the basic principles of solar cell, and the advancement of research on dye sensitized solar cell.

The second talk of the series was entitled “Possible Diagnostic Methods for COVID-19: Review on the Commercial, Emerging and Previously Developed Detection Techniques of Similar Viruses” delivered by Prof. Dr. Nor Azah Yusof, which was held on 13^th May 2020 at 10.00 a.m. The talk was based on the literature study carried out by Prof. Azah during MCO, which was then converted to a talk to enlighten participants on the techniques used by researchers to detect COVID-19 virus.

The third and last talk was delivered by Dr. Amir Reza Sadrolhosseini, FDL Research Fellow, with a talk entitled “Plasmonic and surface plasmon resonance” held on 14^th May 2020 at 10.00 a.m. The talk focused on the basic of surface plasmon resonance and its application in fundamental science and applied engineering.
