HICoE Site Assessment: ION2's Success

SERDANG, 20 June - The Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2) welcomed three panelists from various local universities and representatives from the Higher Education Research Excellence Division (BKPI), Ministry of Higher Education (KPT), for a site evaluation of the Higher Education Center of Excellence (HICoE).

ION2 met the minimum scoring requirements to proceed to the evaluation stage set by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) for the HICoE rating application. This year, the site evaluation session took place on 20 June, followed by the HICoE action plan and road map presentation session on 21 June.

The evaluation's opening ceremony began at 9:30 am and was attended by YBhg. Dato' Prof. Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM); YBhg. Prof. Dr. Mohd Adzir Mahdi, Director of the UPM Research Management Center; all ION2 management members; the panelists; and the KPT secretariat.

"I am confident that ION2 will leverage the expertise of UPM's multidisciplinary research teams to ensure that the advancements in nanotechnology and nanoscience they spearhead will have a significant and immediate impact, not only on agriculture and food security but also on planetary health. I would like to congratulate the ION2 team, including past and present management and staff, who have tirelessly developed the institute, enabling its success in the HICoE evaluation session. We are hopeful that ION2 will achieve the HICoE rating, God willing," said the Vice Chancellor during his welcome speech.

During the evaluation, the panel toured the ION2 laboratories and high-tech equipment. The evaluation panel presented their findings during the closing meeting, expressing positive feedback.

ION2 is optimistic about the positive comments from the panel and hopes for success in being recognized as a Higher Education Center of Excellence (HICoE). The institute extends its gratitude to the ION2 team for their hard work in preparing for the site evaluation and remains hopeful for a successful outcome.
