SERDANG, 31 December 2025 – The Nanomaterials Synthesis and Characterisation Laboratory, Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) welcomed two PhD students from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya, Indonesia, for a one-month International Student Mobility Programme held from 4 to 31 December 2025. This programme is part of a continuing series of research mobility initiatives, aimed at strengthening regional research networks while promoting knowledge exchange and scientific experience.
The two students, Diana Yuswanti Putri and Sri Utami, conducted research entitled “Nano-Encapsulated Syringic Acid Chitosan Synthesis via Ionic Gelation Method” and “Nano-Encapsulated Betaine Chitosan Synthesis via Ionic Gelation Method”. Their work involved nano-material synthesis and characterisation activities, utilising ION2’s advanced laboratory facilities and high-end research equipment. This provided valuable hands-on experience and international research exposure.
During the programme, they were supervised by Prof. Dr. Sharida Fakurazi and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mas Jaffri Masarudin, with technical and research support from Dr. Rosnah Nawang, Mr. Nazrul Abdullah, Ms. Noor Lina Shamsudin, and ION2 postgraduate students.
This initiative reflects a positive development in international academic and research collaboration, creating opportunities for joint projects, co-authored publications, and a more strategic long-term network between the two institutions in the future.
