Serdang, 1 December 2025 – The Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2), UPM organised the Researcher and Student Appreciation Ceremony to honour outstanding graduates and recognise the significant contributions of researchers throughout 2024. The event reflected ION2’s continued commitment to fostering academic excellence and advancing high-impact research.
The meaningful ceremony was further enlivened by a hooding ceremony and the presentation of the Outstanding Student Awards in conjunction with Universiti Putra Malaysia’s 49th Convocation, involving graduates at both Doctor of Philosophy and Master’s levels. Among the PhD graduates celebrated were Dr. Mohd Ruzaimi bin Mohd Ariffin and Dr. Hussein Abdulsalam Ali under the supervision of Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Suhaidi Shafie; Dr. Emmellie Laura Albert supervised by Prof. Madya Dr. Che Azurahanim Che Abdullah; Dr. Du Xuan under Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Suraya Abdul Rashid; Dr. Babani Suleiman under Prof. Dr. Mohd Nizar Hamidon; and Dr. Muhammad Aliyu supervised by Ts. Dr. Umer Rashid.
At the Master’s level, graduates honoured included Ashreen Norman (Prof. Madya Dr. Che Azurahanim Che Abdullah), Tan Khai Yang (Prof. Dr. Lim Hong Ngee), Nurul Ain Huzaifah Mohd Norizan (Dr. Nordin Hj Sabli), and Nur Afif Nadhrah Kamaruzaman (Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Suraya Abdul Rashid).

The ceremony also featured the presentation of the 2024 Outstanding Student Award to Dr. Sani Yusuf under the supervision of Prof. Madya Dr. Raba’ah Syahidah Azis, as well as the Graduate-on-Time (Five Semesters) recognition awarded to Dr. Muhammad Aliyu for his exemplary academic achievement.
In addition, ION2 acknowledged the dedication and excellence of its researchers through the Researcher Excellence Awards 2024. Recipients included Prof. Madya Dr. Khamirul Amin Matori and Prof. Madya Dr. Che Azurahanim Che Abdullah from the Nanomaterials Synthesis and Characterisation Laboratory (NSCL), as well as Prof. Madya Dr. Yusran Sulaiman from the Functional Nanotechnology Devices Laboratory (FNDL). Each awardee received a certificate of appreciation and a token of recognition for their significant contributions to advancing research and innovation at ION2.
The ceremony also saw the Director of ION2 presenting certificates of appreciation to members of the ION2 Postgraduate Club in recognition of their commitment and active involvement in supporting institutional activities.
Attended by the management team and the entire ION2 community, the event served as a meaningful platform to strengthen unity, celebrate collective achievements, and reaffirm the institute’s dedication to excellence in research and academic development at both national and international levels.
