SERDANG, 27th February – The Postgraduate Committee of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2) organized the ION2 Mock Viva program on 27 February 2024 at the ION2 Meeting Room. This Mock Viva program is designed as an intervention initiative aimed at preparing PhD and Master’s students for their Viva Voce examinations. The program provides students with an opportunity to refine their thesis content based on verbal feedback from a panel of evaluators and to increase the number of PhD graduates completing their degrees within 7 to 8 semesters. This year, however, the program focused specifically on PhD students in Semesters 5 and 6, with the goal of assisting them in graduating on time (IGOT) in Semesters 7 and 8.

The panel for this Mock Viva consisted of Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Siti Hajar Othman, Head of the Nanomaterials Processing and Technology Laboratory (NPTL); and ION2 Research Officers Dr. Ismayadi Ismail and Dr. Siti Zulaika Razali. Each student was allocated 20 minutes to present their research, followed by a question-and-answer session with the panel.

Feedback from the students has been overwhelmingly positive. They expressed appreciation for the constructive comments and found the program to be beneficial in preparing them for their Viva Voce. The program is seen as a valuable initiative that not only aids in preparation for the Viva Voce but also enhances thesis writing skills. There is strong support for continuing this program in the future.
