SERDANG, 3 August 2026 – The Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), hosted the 106th Meeting of the UPM Institutes Board of Directors, which was held on 3 August 2026 at the Mega Putra Seminar Room, ION2, UPM.
The meeting brought together Directors from several UPM institutes, including ION2, I-AQUAS, IBS, IKP, ITAFOS, IPSAS, INTROP, IPPH and IEB. Several Directors participated in the meeting online. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Directors, Heads of Laboratories, research representatives and Administrative Officers from the respective institutes.
Prior to the official meeting, the guests were given the opportunity to visit ION2’s new FESEM Laboratory. The visit provided an insight into the latest research facilities and advanced instrumentation available at ION2, particularly in supporting research and development activities in nanoscience, nanotechnology and advanced materials. The session also served as an opportunity for ION2 to showcase its research capabilities and facilities to representatives from other UPM institutes.
The programme continued with a luncheon before the official meeting commenced at 2.00 p.m. Among the key matters discussed were the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the institutes, research developments, research grants, as well as matters related to institutional management and development.
The meeting concluded at 5.30 p.m. with discussions and the exchange of views aimed at strengthening research performance, institutional governance and excellence across UPM’s research institutes.
The hosting of the meeting further reflects ION2’s active role as a research institute at UPM, particularly in supporting the university’s research excellence agenda, strengthening strategic networking and encouraging knowledge and expertise sharing among UPM’s research institutes.
