ION2 Innovation Day in Conjunction with UPM's 50th Golden Jubilee Celebration

SERDANG, Jun 2022 - ION2 Innovation Day was organized on 14th June 2022 at the ION2 Seminar Hall in conjunction with UPM's 50th Golden Jubilee Celebration as a university. The program aimed to showcase research products that have the potential to be commercialized, as well as to liaise with local agencies and industries to jointly develop nanotechnology in local product outcomes. The program also provides an opportunity for ION2 to continue to increase its visibility as an institute focused on nanotechnology, especially after the rebranding on 15 November 2021.

The program was officiated by YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Hasan Mad, a member of the UPM Board of Directors, was also attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), UPM, Prof. Dr. Nazamid Saari as a representative of UPM Management.

In his speech, Dato 'Dr. Hasan Mad called on researchers who specialize in the field of nanotechnology (nanotechnologists) to offer "nano solutions" services, where researchers help industry players in showing how nanotechnology can improve the productivity of their business. According to him, the network between experts, industry players & agencies is very important in translating whatever technology and expertise have been built for so long in ION2 to be immediately utilized.

ION2 managed to gather a total of 16 exhibitions of nano-based products and technologies in UPM that are ready to be commercialized for a display to guests in the hope of exploring commercialization opportunities with the industry and local agencies. The presence of representatives of local agencies and industries, especially those under the auspices of the Malay Consultative Council (MPM) is also very encouraging. It is with the hope that discussions between researchers and local industry players with leading agencies in the field of nanotechnology such as the National Nanotechnology Center (NNC) and NanoMalaysia Berhad can achieve the objective of organizing this program which is to lift nano products for commercialization.
