SERDANG, November 27 – The Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2) celebrated its 25th anniversary with a grand Silver Jubilee event at its campus, showcasing its remarkable journey and accomplishments. The celebration aimed to honor the institute's achievements, acknowledge its contributors, and inspire future growth.
The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ismi Arif Ismail, and the Founders of The Mahmood and Ragayah Foundation, Dato’ Dr. Mahmood Merican Osman Merican and Datin Ragayah Mohamed Eusoff. A significant highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of the ION2 Time Capsule, a symbolic gesture to preserve memories and aspirations for the next 25 years.
In recognition of excellence, the event honored ION2 researchers and staff for their outstanding contributions. Prof. Dr. Ismi Arif Ismail presented the researcher awards, while the staff awards were conferred by ION2 Director, Prof. Dr. Suraya Abdul Rashid. Notable recipients included Dr. Intan Helina Hassan, who received the Best Leadership Award in the Management and Professional (P&P) category; Puan Roslina Abdul Rashid, recognized with the Commitment and Dedication Award; and Cik Nurnazeera, awarded for her positive attitude. Additional awards celebrated achievements in the non-executive (technical) and non-executive (general) staff categories.
The celebration also featured engaging recreational activities such as a fun walk, traditional games, and food and photography booths, fostering a festive atmosphere. The event attracted participation from ION2 staff, UPM students, and alumni, further strengthening the sense of community.
Reflecting on the milestone, ION2 Director, Prof. Dr. Suraya Abdul Rashid, emphasized the significance of the Silver Jubilee as a moment to celebrate the institute's legacy while reinforcing a collective commitment to driving innovation, creating new opportunities, and serving society in the years ahead.
