ION2 publishes Nanoscience and Nanotechnology module for school teachers

SERDANG, 8 September - The Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2) at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has unveiled a groundbreaking nanoscience and nanotechnology module tailored for secondary school teachers, particularly those teaching Chemistry subjects.

The main objective of this initiative is to bridge the knowledge gap among teachers and enable them to effectively convey complex nanotechnology concepts to their students. This endeavor aims not only to kindle interest in Nanoscience but also to stimulate curiosity across various scientific discipline.

The innovative program, designed to empower teachers, will offer guidance through knowledge-sharing sessions and hands-on demonstrations featuring state-of-the-art equipment, facilitated by experienced researchers in nanomaterials research.

The launch of this pilot module marks a significant milestone in the Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Programme for Secondary School Teachers. The project has garnered robust support from the National Nanotechnology Centre (NNC),  Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), which shares the vision of expanding awareness and disseminating the latest advancements in nanoscience and nanotechnology, especially among educators.

YBhg. Prof. Dr. Mohd Nizar Hamidon, director of ION2, shared that the module's inception was the result of collaborative brainstorming within the ION2 team. Their mission is to develop programs that meet community needs while leveraging available expertise and resources. The program is set to commence in the Hulu Langat area.

"Alhamdulillah, through the collective efforts and contributions of the NNC, this module was officially launched today by YBhg. Datuk Ts. Dr. Mohd Nor Azman bin Hassan, Deputy Secretary-General (Technology Development), MOSTI. Our aspiration is for this module to evolve into a dynamic resource that nurtures nanotechnology knowledge among educators and students," he reiterated.
