ION2 Recycling Campaign 2023

SERDANG, May 2023 - The launch of the ION2 Recycling Campaign which was held on 30 May 2023 at the ION2 Seminar Room was organized to support UPM's objective to maintain its position as a Green Campus leader in Malaysia and to strive to achieve the environmental sustainability agenda at the university level in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is a campaign jointly organized by the ION2 Green Sustainability Committee and the ION2 Public Sector Conducive Ecosystem Committee (EKSA) which was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Mohd Nizar Hamidon, Director of ION2.

The organization of the 2023 Recycling Campaign also aims to foster green sustainability practices among ION2 citizens including students and staff. A continuous culture of practice is essential to create a dynamic, environmentally friendly, and conducive work environment to create excellent, glorious, and distinguished human capital and to appreciate God's creation. The organization of such activities also helps to map UPM's sustainability agenda based on the SDGs indicators and the UI-Green Metric World University rating.

Among the objectives of organizing the campaign is to promote the optimal use of existing materials around or reduce the use of raw materials to avoid wasting the increasingly limited natural resources.  In addition, this campaign aims to provide knowledge related to the importance of environmental preservation and conservation to all parties. This campaign is environmentally friendly, fostering the spirit of cooperation of all ION2 staff to keep the workplace environment clean and cheerful. Thus, a responsible attitude towards the environment can be fostered by giving and providing opportunities to carry out recycling activities.

Among the activities carried out during the campaign was a recycling talk delivered by Ts. Dr. Umer Rashid, ION2 Research Fellow. He presented a talk entitled "How Important of Recycle" and acquired the feedback from students and staff about their awareness of the recycling program that took place on the UPM campus generally and ION2 in particular.
