ION2 Student Represents Malaysia in the 12th UNESCO Youth Forum

November, 2021-  Miss Alya Hananin Hashim, a master's student of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) was selected to represent Malaysia in the 12th UNESCO Youth Forum from the 5th to 19th November 2021.

She is one of 153 youth representatives from United Nations (UN) member countries such as France, China, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Afghanistan, South Korea, and others.

This year's theme is "Co-creating with youth the post-COVID-19 period", focuses on 8 main topics of discussion; education, employability, climate change, heritage, well-being, technology, engagement, and media rights.

They have successfully drafted a "Forum Plan of Action by and for Youth for the post-COVID-19" plan through this forum.

“Thank you to all parties involved, especially the Malaysian Commissioner for UNESCO, the Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as UPM, who support my participation. I am proud to bring the voice of Malaysian youth generally and UPM particularly among PBB youths”, said Alya.

UNESCO has organized this event every two years at their headquarters located in Paris, France, since 1999. The aim is to offer youths of UM member countries to voice their views and recommendations to resolve global youth issues. However, the 12th UNESCO Youth Forum was hosted online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
