NILAI, July 25, 2024 — A significant visit took place at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) in Nilai to observe a detailed hands-on demonstration of the Jeol Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM). This demonstration, conducted by Jeol’s technical expert, Mr. Tan, was organized with the assistance of Mr. Low and Dr. Rizuan Mohd Rosnan, the Senior Application Service Engineer.
The visit was accompanied by Dr. Syamsul Kamar Muhamad, the Science Officer responsible for managing and operating the FESEM at USIM. The delegation from the Institute of Nano Science and Nanotechnology (ION2) included Dr. Ismayadi Ismail, Research Officer and Technical Manager for the ISO/IEC 17025 system; Dr. Mohd Hafizuddin Abd Ghani, Research Officer; and Mr. Md Ali Rani, Science Officer and Deputy Technical Manager for ISO 17025 certification for the FESEM equipment at ION2. Their presence provided valuable insights into the technical capabilities of the equipment.
The visit, which lasted nearly two hours, offered an in-depth view of the performance and advantages of the Jeol FESEM model. The Jeol team also provided a comprehensive briefing on the overall cost and maintenance requirements of the system. This included information on the technical and logistical aspects necessary to ensure the efficient operation of the equipment. Additionally, the visit facilitated a valuable exchange of knowledge between ION2 and USIM, strengthening the collaborative relationship between the two institutions and enhancing understanding of FESEM technology.
Overall, the visit was highly productive, offering a thorough overview of the advantages and potential of the Jeol FESEM and strengthening ION2's network and visibility within the academic and technical community.
