SERDANG, 10 December – The fifth International Symposium on Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology (iSAMN2021) is the pinnacle for the Rebranding of the Institute of Advanced Technology (ITMA) to the ION2 Event. ITMA has been rebranding into ION2 on 1 November 2021.

ION2 continues the annual tradition of organizing the iSAMN2021 with the theme, Nanoscale Green Synthesis, and Applications, inspired by ION2’s new niche area.

The critical number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia and the 10-day quarantine rules upon arrival in Malaysia has prompted the organization of iSAMN2021 to be held online for the second time. The conference was hosted online for two days, from 9 to 10 December 2021, through the Zoom app.

“We have received almost 100 entries from local and international researchers. Renowned scientists in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology from Japan, India, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Indonesia, and Malaysia, have shared their knowledge and the latest findings in this conference ", said the Chairman of iSAMN2021, Prof. Ts. Dr. Suraya Abdul Rashid.

Secretary of iSAMN2021, Dr. Siti Zulaika Razali described the preparations for iSAMN2021 as the shortest preparation in the history of the organization. However, she said, the hard work of all committee members enabled it to be implemented and received praises from most conference participants.

The iSAMN2021 proceeding has been recognized as a serial proceeding and has obtained an ISSN number. In addition, special Issues will be published in the International Journal of Nanotechnology (IJNT) and the International Journal of Chemicals and Biochemicals. It is one of the efforts to obtain Scopus-cited proceeding status.

The opening ceremony of iSAMN2021 was officiated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) of UPM, YBhg Prof. Dr. Nazamid Saari, and was attended by the Director of ION2, YBhg. Prof. Dr. Mohd Nizar Hamidon.

At the closing ceremony, the Chairman of iSAMN2021 delivered over the symbolic baton to the 6th Chairman of iSAMN, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Che Azurahanim Che Abdullah.
