Bangi, 9 October 2024 – The 8th International Symposium on Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology (iSAMN2024) was successfully held on 8-9 October 2024 at the Bangi Resort Hotel, Bandar Baru Bangi. The Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2) is proud to have been selected to collaborate with the National Nanotechnology Center (NNC) in conjunction with the 10th National Nano Week program (nanoKEB2024) which takes place from 6 to 12 October 2024 at the same location.
This conference was inaugurated by Dato' Ts. Dr. Mr. Aminuddin bin Hassim, Secretary General of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). The ceremony was also graced with the presence of honorary dignitaries such as Prof. Dr. Zamberi bin Sekawi, UPM Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Ts. Mohd Helme bin Mohd Helan, Acting Director of the National Nanotechnology Center, Ts. Dr. Daniel Bien Chia Sheng, Senior Vice President of NanoMalaysia Berhad, Dean of the UPM Faculty of Science, as well as UPM's Chief Librarian.
With the theme "Nanotechnology Pathway to Net-Zero Emissions by 2050", iSAMN2024 brought two keynote speakers as well as four invited speakers consisting of nanotechnology experts from home and abroad. They have shared about their respective research in the field of nanotechnology that contributes to the well-being of the environment in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The theme of iSAMN2024 emphasizes the important role of nanotechnology in achieving the target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

This two-day conference has attracted more than 80 participants from various countries including Malaysia, India, Thailand, Australia, Japan, Vietnam, and Nigeria, with more than 50 presentations covering various fields of nanotechnology such as Nanosensors & Nanoelectronics, Green Materials and Products, Monitoring and Environmental Remediation, Energy Harvesting/Storage, Modeling, Synthesis and Processing of Nanomaterials, and Biomedical Applications.
iSAMN2024 is not only a platform to share the latest knowledge and research in the field of advanced materials and nanotechnology, but also strengthens strategic cooperation between countries and industries in an effort to address global environmental challenges. ION2 and NNC hope that this collaboration will continue, along with Malaysia's efforts towards a more sustainable and carbon-free future.
The symposium symbolizes a strong commitment to innovative research and international collaboration, as well as supporting the rapid development of nanotechnology in achieving the goal of net zero emissions.
