MOSTI–UPM Collaboration Advances STI Culture Through NanoDidik @UPM

SERDANG, 10 December 2025 – The STI MADANI: NanoDidik @UPM programme, held today at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), successfully attracted more than 500 participants from various segments of the community, reflecting the nation’s continued commitment to strengthening the culture of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) among the public.

Organised under the initiative of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), the programme was implemented by UPM through the expertise of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2) in collaboration with the Faculty of Science, UPM. By adapting the NanoDidik module developed by ION2, the programme provided hands-on and interactive exposure to scientific concepts and nanotechnology applications in everyday life.

The opening ceremony, which took place at 9.30 a.m. at the Jurutera Radin Umar Auditorium, Faculty of Engineering, began with the singing of Negaraku and Putra Gemilang, followed by a prayer recital. The welcoming address was delivered by YBhg. Prof. Dr. Zamberi bin Sekawi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) of UPM. The programme was then officially officiated by YBhg. Dato’ Ruziah binti Shafei, Deputy Secretary-General (Planning and Science Culture), MOSTI, and concluded with a commemorative photo session.

According to the organisers, nearly 400 participants comprised teachers and secondary school students from Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor, Klang and Kuala Langat districts, while the remainder were members of the general public from around Selangor. Beginning at 10.30 a.m., participants took part in a series of interactive science demonstrations and hands-on activities, innovation mini exhibitions, as well as laboratory visits at ION2. Among the highlights were engaging activities such as “Uncovering Hidden Layers”, “Dancing Magnets” and Wireless Electricity.

Participants were also given the opportunity to visit high-technology laboratories featuring advanced instruments such as the Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM), as well as Raman Spectroscopy and X-ray Diffractometer (XRD) facilities. The programme concluded in the afternoon with a visit to Farm Fresh @UPM.

Overall, the STI MADANI: NanoDidik @UPM programme is seen as a continuous collective effort to nurture interest in science and technology among the community, in line with the MADANI aspiration to develop a scientifically literate, innovative, and competitive society.
