Serdang, August 25, 2022 – The Response Surface Methodology (RSM) series two workshop for 2023 took place on August 23-24, 2023, at Dewan Seminar, Institut Nanosains dan Nanoteknologi (ION2). Organized by the Nanotechnology Processing and Technology Laboratory (NPTL), ION2, RSM integrates mathematical and statistical concepts to develop empirical models, improve and optimize process parameters, and identify interactions among key factors in experiments. There were some other statistical experimental development tools such as Completed Randomized Design (CRD), Two Level Factorial Design, Fractional Factorial Design dan Taguchi Method, widely employed in the experimental development for nanotechnology research process optimization.

The virtual and face to face workshop on RSM by NPTL were held since 2022. The first RSM series one for 2023 on the introduction of RSM was held on 9th May 2023 in a virtual format, garnering significant attention with a total of 60 attendees. The positive response from RSM series one attendees highlighted the demand for further exploration technical and practical of RSM in research. This imperative prompted NPTL to bridge this gap, providing interested participants with opportunities to expand their knowledge for learning and research endeavors.

The RSM series 2/2023 spanned one and a half days and attracted 11 participants from UPM and external agencies. The course delved into crucial aspects of building and refining experimental designs, as well as optimizing the subsequent processes. The facilitator also discussed on the types of factors, level and blocking that needed to be considered in the design. Participants gained firsthand experience in experimental design using Minitab software during the course. Ts. Dr. Mohd Salahuddin Mohd Basri, a Senior Lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering at UPM, successfully conducted the course.
