PhD Students Share Global Mobility Experiences in Webinar

Serdang, May 15, 2024 – The Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2) at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), in collaboration with the Graduate Club, Graduate Committee, and the International Center (i-PUTRA), successfully organized a webinar titled "Outbound Mobility Beyond Borders." This webinar aimed to provide information on the application process and procedures for obtaining student visas for studying abroad. Additionally, it served as a platform for students to share their real-life experiences during their mobility programs at international universities.

The program featured three PhD students who secured placements at prestigious universities in Asia:

  • Balkis Hazmi conducted a three-month research attachment at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. She shared her experiences adapting to the culture and educational system in Thailand, along with the challenges she faced.
  • Muhammad Aliyu participated in a six-month mobility program at the Kyushu Institute of Technology in Japan. He recounted his valuable academic and daily life experiences in Japan, including adapting to the different language and culture.
  • Rathi Devi Nair was selected for a one-week program at Universitas Brawijaya in Malang, Indonesia. She shared her interesting experiences interacting with students and lecturers, as well as the cultural diversity she encountered.

The webinar was attended by 60 participants, including students, lecturers, and individuals interested in learning more about the international student mobility program. The enthusiastic response demonstrated a high level of interest within the university community in opportunities for studying abroad.

This program not only provided useful information on application procedures and student visas but also broadened participants' perspectives on the importance and benefits of Outbound Mobility Programs. Through the real-life experiences shared by Balkis, Muhammad Aliyu, and Rathi Devi Nair, participants were inspired and motivated to pursue similar opportunities.

ION2 is committed to continuously providing opportunities and support to students interested in Outbound Mobility Programs, with the hope of producing globally competitive graduates.
