Institute od Advanced Technology (ITMA), UPM has organized a seminar entitled "Postgraduate Seminar on Viva Voce" on April 6, 2018 at ITMA, UPM. This seminar is aimed at helping students who will face viva voce in the near future to prepare neatly by getting advice from experienced ones to further enhance the level of confidence during the presentation. A total of 28 participants comprising of ITMA students who have submitted a thesis or GS-14A notice have joined the workshop.

The seminar was started with the greetings by Prof. Madya Dr. Janet Lim Hong Ngee, Chairman of the Seminar Committee. The seminar was continued with a briefing on the viva process at UPM by Prof. Dr. Nor Aini AB Shukor, Deputy Dean of School of Graduate Studies (SGS), UPM. Then, the seminar was continued with a lecture titled 'Preparation for Viva Voce' by Dr. Tan Tong Ling, ITMA post-doctoral, and 'Do's and Do not's During Viva Voce' by Dr. Nor Hapishah Abdullah, also ITMA post-doctoral.

In the afternoon, "mock viva" sessions were held with students being grouped according to the laboratory with total of four groups. Two examiners consisting of post-doctoral and ITMA researchers were assigned to each group, and the session was conducted simultaneously in their respective laboratories. Participants are given 15 minutes of presentation and 5 minutes of questioning session.

Overall, the seminar has successfully achieved its objective of exposing students to the viva process in UPM, as well as the necessary preparations before taking the viva session. Positive feedback has also been received from all participants with hopes that the seminar will continue in the future. The organizing committee hopes that this seminar has helped the ITMA students in particular to build confidence in the face of viva voce and then graduate with excellence.
