Pre-Conference Workshop Explores Crystal Analysis with XRD

SERDANG, 27 October 2025 – Ahead of the 9th International Symposium on Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology (iSAMN2025), a pre-conference workshop titled “Unveiling Crystals with XRD” was successfully held at the Mega Putra Seminar Room, Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

Organized exclusively for registered iSAMN2025 participants, the workshop was conducted in collaboration with RGS Corporation Sdn Bhd to provide participants with deeper insights into X-ray Diffraction (XRD)—one of the most powerful techniques for characterizing crystal structures and materials.

The workshop featured two expert speakers from RGS Corporation Sdn Bhd—Ms. Carol Tiew Kai Ruo, Application Engineer, and Dr. Low Yiin Jian, Application Specialist. Together, they guided participants through both theoretical and practical aspects of XRD analysis.

The morning session, also streamed live via Zoom, introduced participants to XRD fundamentals, including crystal structure basics, Bragg’s Law, and diffraction principles. The afternoon hands-on session showcased Bragg-Brentano (BB) and Parallel Beam (PB) methods, powder sample measurements, and thin film analysis using GI-XRD and XRR techniques.

The interactive sessions offered an excellent opportunity for participants—particularly early-career researchers and postgraduate students—to strengthen their technical understanding and practical skills in materials characterization, setting an engaging tone for the iSAMN2025 main symposium.
