SERDANG, 8 August 2025 – YBhg. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Suraya Abdul Rashid, Director of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ION2) and Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), delivered her inaugural lecture titled “Quantum Leap in Green Nanotechnology: From One to Zero, and Lab to Market.”
The inaugural lecture series serves as a prestigious platform for professors to share their academic journeys, research achievements, and contributions to knowledge, innovation, and society.
The event, held at the Radin Umar Engineer Auditorium, Faculty of Engineering, was chaired by UPM Vice-Chancellor, YBhg. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah. It drew more than 300 attendees, while many more followed the proceedings via a live broadcast on the Faculty’s official Facebook page.
In her lecture, Prof. Suraya reflected on more than two decades of groundbreaking research in carbon science, with a special emphasis on zero-dimensional carbon. Her pioneering work has resulted in the commercialisation of an eco-friendly zero-dimensional carbon technology for agriculture, specifically through a photosynthesis enhancer. This achievement aligns with UPM’s aspiration of “Agriculture for the People” and highlights the university’s impact on sustainable practices.
Prof. Suraya also underscored the importance of green nanotechnology in shaping sustainable technological growth. She emphasised that discoveries made in the laboratory not only enrich scientific knowledge but also hold vast potential for commercialisation, thereby benefiting society, industry, and the environment.
Recognised as a leading figure in nanotechnology and green innovation, Prof. Suraya’s expertise continues to inspire both academia and industry stakeholders who are seeking environmentally friendly and sustainable solutions.
Warm congratulations are extended to Prof. Suraya and the organising committee for the successful execution of this significant milestone event.
