KUCHING, Aug 12: Research in social sciences and humanities plays a key role in deepening understanding of Sarawaks diverse ethnic communities.

According to Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, such research can explore customs, culture, and traditional practices, including indigenous herbal use.

He added that this is why the Sarawak government continues to support research in social sciences and humanities.

Abdul Karim said this while officiating at the 4th International Conference on Science, Social Sciences, and Humanities (ICOSSH 2025) at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Bintulu Campus today.

This research is important for understanding cultural heritage, and universities such as UPM play a significant role in this effort, he said.

He also cited the publication of a book on traditional Kelabit herbs as an example of a valuable research outcome that should be continued so that such knowledge can be documented and passed down for the benefit of future generations. — DayakDaily
