SERDANG, August 2021 – Qarbotech was crowned as a grand winner and ACSL Award in the Tech Planter Asia 2021 final which was held recently through the Microsoft Team platform.
Prof. Ts. Dr. Suraya Abdul Rashid representing Qarbotech, one of UPM-Innohub's start-up companies managed to convince the jury led by Dr. Ryuta Takeda from Leave a Nest and defeated 11 other finalists comprising start-up companies from several other Asian countries.
These 12 finalists presented their latest developments and technologies to a jury comprised of Tech Planter partners from Japan who also sponsored cash prizes for the participants. They were the candidates selected from 186 entries in the Accelerate2030 program conducted at the end of last July.
“I don't set high expectations at this final stage but I do my very best to introduce our innovation which is Photosynthesis Enhancer or Harvast which has been developed since 2018 at the Institute of Advanced Technology.
I strongly believe this technology may benefit not only farmers but the community as well ", said Suraya.
“Alhamdulillah, our initiative gained the jury's attention and was announced as the grand winner. It was an unforgettable moment until I shed tears ", she continued.
As the main winner, Qarbotech received cash prizes of SGD 3000 and SGD 2500 for the ACSL Award. With this, Qarbotech has the opportunity to obtain funds to expand this technology to the global level through a few more screenings.
Now, Qarbotech is one step closer to their aim, to contribute to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by accelerating national, regional, and global economic cycle initiatives. Well done and congratulations!
